It is among the most disgraceful events in human history, yet is a story that must never stop being told.
On Thursday, February 1, Mrs. Reardon's Global Studies 10 classes welcomed guest speaker Dillon Horowitz, the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, to share his grandmother's inspirational story of surviving that dreadful event. Mr. Horowitz is part of the organization 3GNY, that enables survivors' descendants to visit with students all around the country to preserve their families' stories. This experience, which aligns with our Global Studies 10 curriculum, provided students with a unique opportunity to gain a first-hand perspective on the historical events we study.
Following the presentation, one student wrote of Mr. Horowitz's grandmother, "The fact she made a piece of bread last 3 weeks over hundreds of miles of walking and still traded a bit showed her soul was still there and she had compassion and hope." Another shared, "It really opened my eyes to the fact that it's not just a history lesson, but a real tragedy that affected millions individually."
