The Deposit Central School District is primarily rural. Residents who work in the community work in light industry, agriculture, logging, printing, stone-cutting, health-care, retail and education. Many travel to Binghamton and its surrounding area for work.
Businesses and services located in Deposit include a pharmacy, restaurants, bank, grocery store, antique shops, hair salons, and motels. A large industrial park is located appoximately 20 miles to the west.
Deposit has a wealth of freshwater streams, ponds and lakes for fishing and hundreds of acres of flat land and mountains for cross-country skiing, hiking and hunting. The West Branch of the Delaware River is a haven for fly fishing, canoeing and bald eagle watching.
Deposit is located at the junction of State Routes 8, 10, and 17 (the future Interstate 86).
