Teacher Registration

Do you need to register with NYSED? Beginning in 2016, NYSED required all certificate holders to "register" themselves on the TEACH system. By registering, you are acknowledging that you wish to maintain an active teaching certification in New York State. To check your status or register, you need to log onto the TEACH site (link is in the right column). Once there, you'll see "View Registration Status" under the "Inquiry Links" section. Registrations are good for 5 years. Holders of initial and professional certificates are required to complete their 100 hours of CTLE within the 5 year registration period. 

From NYS: 
We are not currently asking teachers to submit proof of completion for the 100 CTLE hour requirement. If certificate holders have completed the requirement, they just need to hold on to all CTLE certificates that they have received, and for a period of three years after they attest, as we may require proof of completion in the event of an audit.
 
Near the end of a registered certificate holder’s registration period, they will receive an email prompting them to login to their TEACH accounts and attest to completing the 100-hour CTLE requirement, answer moral character questions, and select a new registration status.

Child Abuse Recognition Requirement

New York State is requiring all certificated employees to complete updated Mandated Reporter Training to comply with changes made to Social Services Law §413. This training is part of your requirement to maintain your certification and applies to all certified employees regardless of when you became certified. 
The training is a free, self-directed online training that you can access here: NYS Mandated Reporter Training.
  • From the link, click 'Register For Self-Directed Online Training'
  • Follow the directions for whether you do or do not have a Human Services Learning Center (HSLC) account (most do not have one)
  • You will need to create an account. 
  • Once your account is created, log in to your HSLC account.
  • Click 'Go to My Training'
  • Click 'Mandated Reporter Web-Based On-line”
This training will take approximately 2 hours to complete. Employees can save their progress and return to the training at a later time if needed. There will be a brief Pre-Test, followed by a series of 9 modules with videos and questions, and then a Post-Test on the same questions as the Pre-Test is given. When completed, a certificate will be sent to the employee’s email address. After completing the certificate, print the certificate and save it as a pdf as well.  Then, follow the directions for having the completed certificate submitted to SED.
